Vintage Gebrüder Mönnig Bass Clarinet in Grenadilla – Fully Overhauled, Böhm System (Low Eb)

About the Maker (Gebrüder Mönnig):

Gebrüder Mönnig of Markneukirchen is one of the most prestigious names in German woodwind craftsmanship. The workshop achieved international acclaim in the early 20th century, earning the Grand Prix award at the Paris World Expo for their exceptional woodwinds. Mönnig vintage bass clarinets are renowned for their high-grade aged grenadilla wood, hand-engraved bells, and rich, resonant tone.

Description:

Priced for a quick sale (€2,400 / 18,000 DKK): A vintage bass clarinet made from solid grenadilla wood by Gebrüder Mönnig.

Specifications:

  • Maker: Gebrüder Mönnig, Markneukirchen (“Grand Prix Paris”)

  • Body: Grenadilla wood, 100% free of cracks or repairs

Condition & Overhaul:

Just completed a full mechanical overhaul:

  • New Instrument Clinic RooPads (Kangaroo leather) set in shellac.
  • New corks and felts throughout.
  • Keywork and bell cleaned and polished; wood oiled and conditioned.
  • Fully padded, regulated, and 100% leak-free.

Condition Note: The instrument was previously dropped onto its floor peg/endpin. The endpin receiver area on the bell has been structurally stabilized and straightened, but a minor cosmetic dent remains. Does not affect tone or playability.

Price: €2,400 / 18,000 DKK

 Important Note:

Please “break in” the clarinet gently. I recommend playing it for around 30 minutes a day—and no more—for the first month. The wood needs a little time to wake up and safely get used to humidity changes again.
