G. Bardelli

Albert system clarinet in Bb, low pitch

G. Bardelli Albert clarinet

G. Bardelli (Guido Bardelli) was a music instrument dealer in Trieste, Italy. They didn´t make the instruments, but got them from elsewhere. It could be made by Rampone which was one of the larger manufacturers of clarinets at the time.

There is a record of the G. Bardelli label from 1926. The design of the keywork is typical for the beginning of the last century, My guess is that it is made between 1900-1925.

The G. Bardelli clarinet has been serviced and plays perfectly. Though, it´s not a very good clarinet! I´ll get back to that later…
It is cleaned and lubricated, new leather pads and new cork. all main parts are original.

This instrument is made of grenadilla wood and measures 59,9 cm from top of barrel to bottom of bell. The bore is 14,50 mm and the total weight is 590 grams.

The pitch is A=440 with a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece.

The wood is good. All tenons are intact, but there is an old crack repair on the lower parts top tenon.

The clarinet is more than a 100 years old, and you might need adjustments for your own personal taste, like a different spring tension etc…

As I mentioned before, it is not a particularly good clarinet. It has had a hard life and has been through some serious repairs. Some of the posts have been replaced with others without threads! Maybe the old ones had to be sawed off due to rust. As a result of this some of the screws have been replaced with studs without threads, like those used in the 1800s. You can see it in some of the pictures.

It all seems to be stable and it doesn’t affect playability. The internal intonation is not the best in the world either. That’s why I’m selling it cheap. It is great for a beginner who wants to learn the different fingerings we use on the Albert system. It could also be an established Boehm clarinetist who wishes to try his hand at the famous and fantastic sound that characterizes the Albert clarinet.

Important for this G. Bardelli:

I would ask you to “warm up / break in” the clarinet gently. Play for about half an hour every day for at least a month. Not anymore. The wood needs to be reminded that it is actually a clarinet and needs to get used to changes in humidity again.

Please note that although it looks pretty in the photos, it is not a new clarinet. both wood and keys show signs of wear.

The clarinet unfortunately comes without a case!
