Rare Marigaux A Clarinet – Fully Overhauled (Matching S/N 4518)
Looking for a professional A clarinet with a rich, warm tone, flawless mechanics, and top-tier French craftsmanship?
Marigaux is world-renowned for its elite French woodwind instrument making. In terms of quality, keywork, and acoustic performance, Marigaux clarinets are fully on par with premium models from Buffet Crampon and Selmer. However, because Marigaux is primarily famous for its oboes, you can acquire this professional French-made instrument at a fraction of the cost.
An ideal choice for orchestral players, chamber musicians, or ambitious students seeking uncompromising quality without paying the high price tag of more common brands.
Highlights & Condition:
- Condition: Freshly overhauled and 100% ready to play! Beautiful grenadilla wood with matching serial numbers (4518) on both top and bottom joints.
- New Pads: Repadded with cork pads on the upper joint (offering crisp response and long-lasting precision) and luxury kangaroo leather pads on the lower joint (ensuring perfect seal and a deep, warm tone).
- Barrel: Please note that the original barrel is unfortunately missing. It comes instead with a synthetic barrel that perfectly matches the original bore and length for stable intonation and excellent projection.
- Sound: Deep, warm, and resonant with great projection – typical of fine Marigaux craftsmanship.
(For comparison, a similar professional French A clarinet from Buffet or Selmer easily goes for twice this price on the used market).
Located in Denmark. Worldwide shipping is available at buyer’s expense, or local pickup/testing can be arranged.
Important Note:
Please “break in” the clarinet gently. I recommend playing it for around 30 minutes a day—and no more—for the first month. The wood needs a little time to wake up and safely get used to humidity changes again.
The case is not original. In fact, it‘s originally for a Bb clarinet, modified to accomodate the longer A clarinet.
